MeshOS v0.4.5

MeshOS 0.4.5: Map Overlay, Node Fade, and Desktop Improvements

Released on March 29, 2026, MeshOS 0.4.5 focuses on making the map view more useful — especially on larger screens — while fixing a handful of persistent bugs that had been bothering users in everyday mesh operation.

Wide-Screen Map Overlay

On tablets and desktops, a new floating panel can now be displayed directly over the map, showing the channel list and contacts without leaving the map view. The panel is resizable via a drag handle and can be toggled on or off at any time. When the overlay is active, the map's auto-center logic accounts for the panel width, so your node cluster stays properly centered in the visible area.

Temporal Node Fade

Nodes that haven't been heard recently now fade out on the map over time. Nodes heard today appear at full brightness; by day 7 with no signal, they become invisible. This Temporal Node Fade feature can be turned off in settings if you prefer to keep all markers visible regardless of age. Map marker popups also now display the last heard timestamp for each node.

Path Analysis Alongside Chat

Previously, viewing path analysis — the route a packet took through the mesh — required closing the chat overlay. In 0.4.5, path analysis can be viewed on the background map while keeping the chat panel open, which makes it much easier to correlate message delivery with actual routing behavior.

Desktop Zoom Controls

Two dedicated zoom buttons (+/-) have been added for desktop users. On macOS, Magic Mouse scroll-to-zoom is also on its way — this feature is listed as coming soon and will be completed in an upcoming release.

Heard List Fix and Cross-Platform Refactor

A persistent bug in the Heard List has been resolved: previously, deleted entries would reappear after restarting the app. That deletion state now correctly survives app restarts. Under the hood, a cross-platform refactor introduces conditional imports to improve compatibility between the web and native versions of the app — groundwork that will matter as MeshOS continues to expand its platform support.
