Companion App v1.51.0

MeshCore Companion App Update 1.51.0: Enhancements for Off-Grid Communication

The latest update for the MeshCore Companion App, version 1.51.0, released on November 4, 2026, introduces a range of new features and improvements designed to enhance usability and communication capabilities within the MeshCore network. This update focuses on making off-grid communication more intuitive and reliable for users of meshcore.at.

Quick Messages Feature

A new quick messages feature, also known as "canned messages," has been added to the message composer menu. This allows users to quickly select and send predefined messages, which is particularly useful in situations requiring rapid communication or limited input options.

GPS Position on Map

A new button has been added to the map screens, enabling users to quickly jump to their current GPS position using their phone's GPS. This significantly improves self-orientation and the ability to locate one's own node on the Discover Map. A long press on the Discover Map now updates the self-position and allows copying of coordinates. A new map marker also indicates the own companion node's position.

Configurable Buzzer Alerts

Notification settings now include a new checkbox for buzzer alerts, allowing users to toggle the companion buzzer on or off. This feature requires Companion Firmware v1.19.0+ and provides customizable audio feedback for incoming messages or other events.

Enhanced Message Sending Settings

Users can now configure the number of direct and flood attempts when sending direct messages. Contact messages now default to 4 direct and 4 flood attempts, an increase from the previous 4 direct and 1 flood attempt, thereby improving message delivery reliability. An info banner has also been added to clarify that sending contact messages requires the recipient to add the sender as a contact first.

Contact Management and Error Handling Improvements

The update introduces the ability to cancel retries when sending an outbound contact message. Messages are now marked as failed if a resend attempt occurs while disconnected, and a bug that would delete messages in such scenarios has been fixed. Hop count (the number of nodes a message traverses) and path hash sizes are now shown under channel messages by default. Additionally, macOS 12+ is now a minimum requirement for the application on Apple computers.
