Released on March 22, 2026, version 1.42.0 of the MeshCore Companion App brings a range of practical improvements: better diagnostic tools, more flexible contact management, and support for six additional languages.
Multibyte Ping and Line of Sight Access
Holding down a ping button now triggers a multibyte ping – a ping variant that includes additional payload bytes, allowing for more accurate round-trip time measurements across the mesh. The Line of Sight tool, used to visualise whether two points have an unobstructed radio path, can now be launched directly from the coverage map tool menu, saving several navigation steps.
Contact Import and Export
The Discover screen now includes a menu option to import and export found contacts as JSON files. This makes it straightforward to share contact lists between devices or distribute a pre-populated list within a group. When working in multi-select mode, two new buttons let you select all or deselect all contacts at once.
Antenna Coverage and Manual Trace Tool
The Antenna Coverage tool now automatically fits the map view to any imported JSON layers, removing the need to manually adjust zoom and position after loading propagation data. In the Manual Trace tool, spaces in the path field are now permitted and automatically trimmed, reducing errors when entering file paths by hand.
Region Selection and Channel Message Length
A radio checkbox has been added to the region selection screen, making it visually clearer that a region must be actively selected before the device can operate. Note that channel messages sent with a region scope applied must now be 10 bytes shorter than before – keep this in mind when composing messages in scoped channels.
New Languages and Bug Fixes
Six new interface languages are now available: Dutch, French, Hungarian, Italian, Polish, and Slovak. On the bug fix side: the contacts-full notification no longer appears when it has been disabled in preferences. Contacts added via the Discover screen now correctly carry over the last advert timestamp. And on iOS, a bug that prevented users from swiping back to exit the Discover screen has been resolved.
